About Us

We are 2 couples- 4 friends from South America who came to Hawaii to experience Hawaii’s lifestyle and do what we like the most: Surf!

In 2014, we use to get together at our houses to make food and açaí bowls after surf sessions. Some of us lived in Kailua and we realized Kailua was lacking a place that had fresh food, authentic acai bowls and a relaxed atmosphere. That’s when we decided to team up and open our own cafe!

With little money and no experience with owning a business, we took a chance, maxed out our credit cards, used our savings, and got to work!  Our first location, Kailua, took several months to be ready since we did most of the work ourselves- making the tables, bar counter, light fixtures, building our benches, and painting!

We are proud and grateful to say we received enormous support from the local community and our amazing staff! We think of Nalu as a happy place and we are proud of the food we serve!

Come find us at any of our locations across the island of Oahu, including our newest location in Waikiki. Try our authentic açai bowls- winner of Oahu’s BEST OF for 2023. Delight in our signature Nalu sauce atop many of our sandwiches, or sample one of our gluten free options. We incorporate the flavors and foods we love, hoping you will love them too!

Supporting Local

Here at Nalu Health Bar, we feel that it is important to source what we can locally, while ensuring reliability and quality control. While many of our ingredients are not sourced locally,  much of the pre-made and processed items we carry are made on island, including our coffee, coffee flavorings, cold brew on tap, kombucha, coconut yogurt, gluten free bread, and gluten free vegan baked goods.

In addition to food items, we also try to support our local creative community by offering consignment options for local painters and photographers, and selling books by local authors. We are even working with a local design and merchandise team to select all our new Nalu merchandise!
